PUBLIC HEARING DATES SET FOR CITIZEN COMMENT ON FAYETTE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN UPDATE

Meetings Will Solicit Suggestions from Residents Regarding
New and Existing Park Property Use, Programs, Activities, Events and Services

(Lexington, KY ~ July 25, 2008) – The Lexington Division of Parks and Recreation is inviting the public to participate in a series of meetings in early August that will help set the future of parks programming for the next 10 years.

The public meetings will be held in locations throughout Fayette County on Monday, August 4, Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6.

“As part of its accreditation standards, the Division of Parks and Recreation regularly updates its overall master plan for the use of parks in Lexington and our programming,” said Jerry Hancock, Director of the Division of Parks and Recreation. “This update is part of our ongoing process to offer fresh and innovative recreation opportunities for the citizens of Lexington. We want every group to be involved in our planning process.”

There will be a separate series of meetings to discuss a separate master plan for Hisle Park, an undeveloped 225-acre park located on Briar Hill Road in Lexington’s east side. This land was donated to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government by the Hisle family. The meetings will help determine land use and recreation facilities to be created on the property.

“We want comment from all citizens on the Hisle Park project,” said Hancock. “We especially want comment and input from recreation groups who are not served by facilities and opportunities currently offered within our park system. We are contacting recreation groups and encouraging them to participate in this planning process.”
