Fireworks spectacle will cap Lexington’s 4th of July Festival Posted Date: 6/25/2009 9:15 AM What would a 4th of July Festival be without the boom, swish, and burst of color of an annual fireworks display? Lexington has a magnificent display produced by the oldest fireworks company in America, Zambelli Fireworks Internationale; planned on Saturday night, July 4. It’s literally a show-stopper – the Red, White and Boom! Concert will temporarily wind down at 10 p.m. until after the 20 minute display, then resume until midnight. This year’s concert in the Cox Street parking lot near Rupp Arena, featuring Hank Williams Jr., will require paid admission, but the fireworks display is free to the public. There are several great places with free parking from which to watch the downtown fireworks display – the Lexington Transit Center rooftop parking lots, the Lexington Center’s High Street parking lot at Gate 1, and the Jefferson Street Viaduct will be open to pedestrians. The fireworks, sponsored by M&M Sanitation, are choreographed to music, which will be played on radio channel 630 WLAP-AM, beginning at 10 p.m. “The fireworks and Red, White & Boom Concert will complete Lexington’s 4th of July Festivities, a full day that includes the Bluegrass 10,000 foot race, street festival, parade, and multiple outdoor entertainment venues,” said Penny Ebel, special events coordinator for Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry’s office. “Come spend the day downtown and “Celebrate America!” For more information, call Penny Ebel at 859-258-3100. |
