Lexington Police Activities League (PAL) - Focus on Boxing
The Lexington Division of Police implemented the PAL Boxing program in April of 2008. In existence for decades, the program includes past champions such as Muhammed Ali, Larry Holmes, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The Division of Police targets “at-risk” youths within the community in order to allow them the opportunity to succeed and be mentored. The coaching staff is comprised of four Division of Police employees and two carefully selected volunteers. The youth are provided with all necessary equipment free of charge. They can compete in USA Boxing sanctioned amateur bouts if they chose to do so and demonstrate the appropriate skill level and commitment. In August 2008, four youth competed in the 2008 Ringside World Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. Several more will compete this coming January in the 2009 National Silver Glove Tournament.
The Police Activities League of Lexington is a crime prevention program that relies on recreation, athletics and education to build a positive relationship between police officers, youth, and the community - "Cops and Kids Working Together To Make a Difference."
